Chemically defining, vinegar is a liquid processed from the fermentation of ethanol that yields acetic acid in the process.

Some natural vinegar may even find you with the traces of tartaric acid & acetic acid.



It has not only reserved for itself a place of importance but has also been tagged as irreplaceable in the culinary world, making it popular as well as an important element in many world cuisines from western, to European, to Asian.



Evidences show that vinegar has been used in cuisines for long, probably since the Egyptian & Babylonian civilizations.

  1. Healing Virtues:-Vinegar was used as a disinfectant & an antibiotic by the ancient Greeks. Even the modern medics use vinegar to treat wounds.
  2. Cholesterol: A study published in 2006 revealed that the principal component of vinegar: acetic acid had significantly lower values for serum total cholesterol triacylglycerols.
  3. Diet Control:-Trials indicate that vinegar intake with food increases the satiety value of food & so reduces the amount of food consumed.
  4. Diabetic management & Blood glucose:-Small amounts of vinegar (approx. 2 tablespoons of domestic vinegar) taken along with food reduces the glycemic index (effects of carbohydrates on the blood glucose levels) of carbohydrate food.
  5. Other uses: - Vinegar is claimed to be a solution to dandruff that fills the fungus & restores the chemical balance of the skin. It is also a household remedy for 'common warts’. Vinegar can be effective in relieving heartburns.

Cholesterol is the main form of fat carried in the blood stream.

The parts of these fats are derived from food and a part is itself produced by the body.

Normal levels of cholesterol in the blood are advisable but excess of it is harmful for the body.

A high level of cholesterol is the major risk factor for various heart problems.

The desirable cholesterol level in the blood is below 200 and levels above 240 shows high risk for heart diseases.

Various Ways to Lower Cholesterol :-

Reduce intake of fat to just 20 Gms per day.Try to use minimal amounts of sugar and avoid ice-creams and other heavy fat desserts like pastries, cookies and other bakery products.

Avoid organ meats like liver, brain and also egg-yolks as they have high amounts of cholesterol. Egg white is beneficial as high in protein.

Avoid saturated fats like cheese, cream and butter.

Use olive oil and canola oil in cooking as they are helpful in lowering blood cholesterol. Safflower oil and corn oil can also be used.

Fish contains good amounts of omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids that helps in maintaining cholesterol levels and also improves vision. Fish can be taken in grilled or baked style without using much of oil. If vegetarian walnuts and flaxseed oil serves the same purpose.

Intake of good amount of fiber in the diet helps in excreting the excess of cholesterol from the body by enhancing the bowel movement. Foods like whole grain cereals, oats, legumes, apples, pears, plums, carrots, barley should be included in the diet.

Soy protein foods such as tofu, soy milk are good sources of protein and lowers cholesterol.

2-3 cloves of raw garlic when taken in the early morning help in lowering blood cholesterol.

A good amount of exercising will help in reducing weight and finally the cholesterol levels.
Smoking and drinking should also be avoided.

Garlic:- Garlic is very effective in lowering blood pressure. Take 2-3 raw garlic cloves a day. It slows down the pulse rate and relieves the symptoms of dizziness, numbness and shortness of breath and formation of gas within the digestive system.

Lemon:- Lemon is also very effective food in controlling high blood pressure. It helps in maintaining capillary fragility.

Grapefruit:-Grapefruit is useful in preventing high blood pressure.

Watermelon:-Watermelon also safeguards against high blood pressure. The seeds of watermelon also can be dried and roasted and taken in liberal amounts.

Rice:- Rice is low-fat, low-cholesterol and low-salt content is very good for people suffering from high B.P. who have been advised salt-restricted diet. Particularly brown rice having calcium soothes and relaxes the nervous system and helps relieve High B.P symptoms.

Potato:- Boiled potatoes are very valuable in lowering high B.P. Boiled potatoes absorb very little salt and thus are very useful. Potatoes are rich in Potassium and not sodium salts and magnesium present in potato is also beneficial.

Parsley:- Parsley is very useful in high blood pressure. It helps maintain the blood vessels .Parsley can be taken as a beverage by simmering 20gms of fresh parsley leaves gently in 250 ml of water for a few minutes. Drink this several times a day.

Vegetable Juice:- Raw vegetable juices, especially carrot and spinach juices, taken separately or in combination, are also beneficial in the treatment of high B.P If taken in combination, 300 ml of carrot juice and 200 ml of spinach juice should be mixed to make 500 ml and taken daily. If taken separately, one glass should be taken twice daily, morning and evening.

Take a 10-30 minutes walk every day. And while you walk, smile.
Sit in silence for at least 10 minutes each day.
Sleep for 7 hours.
Live with the 3 E's -- Energy, Enthusiasm, and Empathy.
Play more games.
Read more books than you did in 2007.
Make time to practice meditation, yoga, and prayer. They provide us with daily fuel for our busy lives.
Spend time with people over the age of 70 & under the age of 6.
Dream more while you are awake.
Eat more foods that grow on trees and plants and eat less food that is manufactured in plants.
Drink plenty of water.
Try to make at least three people smile each day.
Don't waste your precious energy on gossip.
Forget issues of the past. Don't remind your partner with his/her mistakes of the past. That will ruin your present happiness.
Don't have negative thoughts or things you cannot control. Instead invest your energy in the positive present moment.
Realize that life is a school and you are here to learn. Problems are simply part of the curriculum that appear and fade away like algebra class but the lessons you learn will last a lifetime.
