Cough Tips – Care Talks to cure it

Increasing humidity in the air helps relieve a cough.

A vapourizer and a steamy shower are two ways to increase the humidity.

Drink extra fluids to help thin secretions and make them easier to cough up.

When a cold and a stuffy, runny nose accompany the cough, it is often caused by mucous dripping down the back of the throat.

A decongestant that opens the nasal passages will relieve this postnasal drip, and is the best treatment for that type of cough.

Decongestants such as phenylephrine, pseudoephedrine or combinations of these two decongestants are available as over-the-counter cold medications.

Don't give decongestants to a child under six years of age unless prescribed by the doctor.

It is important to talk to your physician before using any cough medications for children under two.

If you have high blood pressure (hypertension), consult the doctor before taking decongestants.

Coughs due to chronic postnasal drip are probably caused by either sinus infection or allergy.

If allergy is the cause, it is typically treated by avoiding the trigger (allergen) that is causing the allergy.

In addition, anti-histamines and a steroid nasal spray are sometimes used to suppress the allergic inflammation.

Avoid smoking and coming in direct contact with people experiencing cold or flu symptoms.

Wash hands frequently during episodes of upper-respiratory illnesses.

An acute infection such as pneumonia may require antibiotics, an asthma-induced cough may be treated with the use of bronchodilators, or an antihistamine may be administered in the case of an allergy.

Health Care Facts-Sciatica & Causes of Sciatica

Sciatica
is a set of symptoms including pain that may be caused by general compression and/or irritation of one of five nerve roots that give rise to the sciatic nerve, or by compression or irritation of the sciatic nerve itself.

The pain is felt in the lower back, buttock, and/or various parts of the leg and foot.

In addition to pain, which is sometimes severe, there may be numbness, muscular weakness, and difficulty in moving or controlling the leg.

Typically, the symptoms are only felt on one side of the body.

May be there are many causes of Sciatica, but I want to share main Four Causes of Sciatica.

(1) Piriformis Syndrome :-

This is the common cause of sciatic pain and is created when pressure is placed on the sciatic nerve by the piriformis muscle.

Muscle imbalances pull the hip joints and pelvis out of place and this changes the positioning of the piriformis muscle, which then places pressure on the sciatic nerve.

Whatever the case, muscle imbalances will cause major problems and are the underlying cause of piriformis syndrome.

(2) Herniated Discs :-

Pressure caused by a herniated or bulging disc.

A herniation is when a disc protrudes out from between the vertebrae and this can either be caused by an event like a car accident, or, by months or years of uneven pressure due to muscle imbalances.

This can sometimes cause sciatic pain, but it is also important to note that many people with herniated discs don't even experience pain or symptoms, and many don't know they have the condition.

(3) Spinal Stenosis :-

Pressure caused by spinal stenosis, which is a decrease in the space between the vertebrae. This is primarily caused by uneven pressure and compression due to muscle imbalances.

(4) Isthmic Spondylolisthesis :-

Pressure caused by Isthmic spondylolisthesis which is simply when a vertebrae slips or moves. This can sometimes pinch the sciatic nerve but often times people who have this condition don't have any sciatic pain, symptoms, or even know they have it!

As you can see, there is a trend here, in nearly every case of sciatica, muscle imbalances are the primary cause of the pressure being placed on the sciatic nerve.

If you are not sure which one of the four is causing your sciatica, I recommend you start with the basics. Most cases of sciatic pain are caused by muscle imbalances so if you begin to work on correcting any muscle imbalances you have, you should start to see improvement right away, and likely eliminate your sciatic pain in a few weeks or less!

Sciatica comes about either due to a traumatic event, muscle imbalances, or a combination of both. The event scenario is most likely the catalyst for sudden onset of sciatic pain. So what happens? When there is undue stress on the Piriformis muscle that stress causes it to go into spasm and then you have pain due to the Piriformis muscle putting pressure on the sciatic nerve.

Blood Glucose Test

Why is a blood sugar test done? :-

Diabetes mellitus is diagnosed based on a high level of glucose (sugar) in the blood.

Blood Sugar test, done fasting and 2 hours after breakfast, is used for the diagnosis of diabetes.

How is the test done? :-

(a) Fasting blood glucose:-

In this test, a person is asked to fast overnight, at least 8 hours, and the level of glucose in the blood is then checked.

(b) Post prandial (PP) blood glucose:-

This is tested two hours after having a meal. It serves as a challenge for the body to regulate the blood sugar after a meal.

Random blood sugar or glucose test is that which is done at any other time. The blood glucose can also be tested after giving 75 gm glucose by mouth (glucose challenge test).

This is useful for detecting borderline diabetes and a condition called "impaired glucose tolerance". Blood glucose tests are also needed for checking the control in diabetes.

What are the normal values? :-

Normal fasting plasma glucose levels are less than 110 mg/dl. Normal PP plasma glucose levels are less than 140 mg/dl.

What are the abnormal values? :-

A fasting plasma glucose level of more than 126 mg/dl indicates diabetes mellitus. A level between 110-125 mg/ dl is called "impaired fasting glucose".

A PP or random plasma glucose level of more than 200 mg/dl indicates diabetes mellitus. A level between 140-199 mg/ dl is called "impaired glucose tolerance".

A blood sugar exceeding the level of 200 mg/dl or higher generally indicates the presence of diabetes.

What is the role of insulin? :-

The body breaks down food into glucose (sugar) and uses it as a source of energy. Insulin helps the cells of the body to utilize this glucose for energy, and to store the excess in the liver for later use.

Thus insulin regulates the blood glucose (sugar) levels. In diabetics, the body does not produce enough insulin or does not use the produced insulin effectively. This results in a high level of glucose in the blood ("hyperglycemia").

Health Care Tips & Guide- Simple Art of Washing Your Face

Lets Discuss about Art of Washing Face for Beautiful & Healthy Skin.

Did you know that you have a great deal of control over the texture, clarity, suppleness and long-term health of facial skin just based on how and how often you cleanse? Whether you’re young or old, man or woman, you can do your skin a big favor by cleansing correctly.

Cleansing is arguably the most important part of your basic skincare routine. Proper cleansing gets rid of old surface skin cells, dirt and dust, grime, make-up and bacteria, and keeps skin pores free of clogs and able to breathe freely.Cleansing also aids circulation and prepares the skin to receive topically applied nutrients and lipids.

Here are some tips for proper facial cleansing from the 5,000-year-old healing tradition of Ayurveda : -

(1) Cleanse twice a day, no more. Unless you have exposed your skin to excessive dust, grime or pollution, twice-a-day cleansing is more than adequate for any skin type.

Cleansing too often strips your skin of precious natural oils.

Not cleansing regularly, particularly before you retire for the night, may lead to build-up and eruptions.

(2) Choose a cleanser that is appropriate for your skin type. Do not use soap on facial skin: it can be too harsh and drying and damage skin over time. A too-rich cleanser can clog pores, while a too-dry cleanser can irritate the skin.

A cleanser for dry skin should contain nourishing herbs and oils. One for oily skin should include herbs that balance oil production and support clarity. Sensitive skin benefits from an ultra-gentle, fragrance-free, non-irritating cleanser.

Traditional ayurvedic cleansers are made fresh with natural ingredients such as ground oats, lentils or chickpeas, complexion enhancing or clarifying herbs such as turmeric, Amalaki, Neem and sandalwood, emollients such as milk, cream yogurt or honey, and floral or citrus waters for pure healing fragrance.

You can make your own by mixing the dry ingredients to last a week or two and blending the mix with milk or cream right before use. Otherwise, look for a natural cleanser that’s gentle and fortified with skin-friendly herbs.

(3) Always cleanse with tepid water. Hot water dries and damages skin over time, and cold water won’t dissolve and take away embedded dirt and grime as well as lukewarm water.

(4) If you use sponges or washcloths, make sure they are clean and soft. They are notnecessary for effective cleansing: your fingertips can do just as good a job.

(5) Wash your hands thoroughly before you cleanse your face, or you will be working dirt into facial skin.Use a headband to secure hair away from the face.

(6) Start by splashing tepid water on your face and neck.

(7) Apply the cleanser with your fingertips or a soft sponge, using gentle circular massaging strokes and moving upward on the face and neck. Do not scrub too much…gentle massaging strokes are enough to help improve circulation as well as loosen grime and old surface skin cells. Too much scrubbing will stretch skin and irritate it, especially the delicate skin around the eyes.

(8) Rinse with lots of tepid water. Don’t forget to rinse off cleanser from the neck and hairline. Cleanser residue can clog pores and attract dirt.

(9) Gently blot off excess water with a soft towel. Do not scrub dry or drag towel along skin.

(10) Follow immediately with a water-based toner and a moisturizer appropriate for your skin type to seal in surface moisture and offer nourishment when skin is receptive.
